Last year was my dadʻs 60th birthday, and my mom threw him a surprise Mexican inspired birthday party. Every guest was encouraged to bring their own salsa recipe for a salsa eating contest. My mom is an incredible cook and the food was delicioso.
For the invitations I went for a Monterey style. The Monterey style comes from Monterey, California from about 1835-1840 where they have the beautiful adobe houses with that real Spanish flare! My parents basement contains some furniture pieces of the style. To me, it really speaks California/Mexico/Arts & Crafts, some of the which are my dadʻs favorite. I found a really neat Monterey furniture piece that was painted with these beautiful red flowers on it and wanted to recreate it for the invitation.
